Our Community: “…to the fellowship…” (Acts 2:42)
To be a Christian means to belong to Christ and to belong to a local church, as the imagery of Christ and His Church teaches (husband/wife, shepherd/sheep, vine/branches, head/body). Therefore being a “member” of our church means that we belong to a community of faith much larger than ourselves, and that we are devoted to each other in a common faith, worship, and commitment to the church. As a community, God has ordained leaders for our benefit: pastors, elders, and deacons. Our pastors serve us by feeding us with the bread of life from the pulpit; our elders serve us by watching out for our souls in prayer and visitation; and our deacons serve us by taking care of the tangible needs of our fellow members.
